Who I am

When one looks at my paintings, at first glance the bright colors and sporadic lines are definitely an eye catcher. However, my paintings are all quite personal and more than a quick gimmick of colors or design; each one is a moment from my life worked out into a visual form. What they represent may be something I experienced during the day or a specific emotion being felt. Each stroke, drip, splatter, line, and texture all has a purpose and intention. My work captures an unconventional form of beauty, in what I see as the beauty of truth. The layers, textures, scrapes, scratches and colors are all decided on the spot, relying on “in the moment” decisions rather than a predetermined plan. This is to keep the paintings real, often true emotions are covered in fear of response; I want to eliminate that very possibility of being overwhelmed by fear.
People may wonder what each painting is, or try to form a relationship with my paintings to something in their own life, though it is impossible for them to get the true meaning of the piece because I choose not to show or depict in terms that most viewers will understand, it is to personal. The viewer will only see as far as I allow them, and often the title will bring insight to the meaning of the piece, however the true meaning will always be mine. I know a piece is complete when I feel a deep spiritual connection with it. It is not so much what a piece says, but how it feels or more importantly how I feel. I am satisfied when my work has a strength calling the viewer to get close, to touch, and to wonder.
